Nasal Fold Removal ------------------ General Information The nasal fold is a prominent wrinkle below the eyes of some flat-nosed dogs, such as Pugs and Pekingese. These breeds also commonly have protruding eyes. The hair of the nasal fold often rubs, irritates and damages the eyes. If this occurs, the cornea may be damaged and ulcerated. Pigment on the damaged cornea generally remains, regardless of treatment. The object of treatment is to prevent further damage and possible blindness. Important Points in Treatment 1. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and your dog is normally hospitalized for a short period. Laboratory tests may be recommended before surgery. 2. Your dog's appearance will change very little after surgery. Notify the Doctor if Any of the Following Occur: * Your dog scratches or rubs its eyes or nose. * You cannot give the prescribed medications. * Your dog's general health declines.
