Pelodera Dermatitis in Dogs --------------------------- (rhabditic dermatitis) General Information Pelodera strongyloides is a small, worm-like organism found in the soil or in damp straw bedding that has contacted infested soil. If your pet lies on infested bedding, it may develop a skin rash and loss of hair. Skin areas that contact the damp bedding (usually the abdomen and legs) are most commonly affected. Affected dogs scratch and bite the irritated areas, which aggravates the dermatitis. Important Points in Treatment 1. Discard all old bedding, and replace it with clean, dry bedding. 2. Dog houses and kennels should be disinfected. The doctor will recommend the most effective product. 3. Skin treatment depends on the severity of the condition. The doctor will suggest the proper treatment for your pet. Notify the Doctor if Any of the Following Occur: * Your pet continues to scratch or lose hair. * Your pet's rash fails to disappear. * Your pet's condition recurs after apparent recovery.
