Orchitis -------- General Information Orchitis is inflammation or infection of the testicles. Usually this condition results from injuries, such as cuts, bruises or fight wounds. Other causes include spread of infection from the urinary bladder, prostate gland or bloodstream. Due to swelling of the testicles, orchitis is very painful. Without prompt treatment, permanent damage to the testicles is likely. Infection of the testicles can spread to other areas of the body, such as the abdominal cavity, prostate or bladder. Important Points in Treatment 1. Treatment of orchitis varies with the severity of infection, and ranges from at-home medical treatment to in-hospital medical and/or surgical therapy. In some cases, castration may be necessary. 2. Give all medication as directed. Call the doctor if you cannot give the medication. 3.
