Vaginitis --------- General Information Vaginitis is inflammation of the vagina. Causes include infection, foreign objects, tumors and mating injuries. Female puppies may exhibit mild vaginitis before their first heat period (juvenile vaginitis). Juvenile vaginitis generally disappears after the first heat period. If it persists, further evaluation is required. Signs of vaginitis vary with the cause and severity. Usually a vaginal discharge is present, varying from almost clear mucus to yellow or greenish pus. Your pet may lick its vulva incessantly, urinate frequently, and have a skin irritation around the vulva. The vaginal discharge may attract males. Important Points in Treatment 1.
