Vaginal Prolapse ---------------- General Information In vaginal prolapse, the vagina literally turns inside out and bulges through the vulva. In the early stages, the prolapse appears as a pink, fleshy mass. Later it may become dark red, bloody, infected and ulcerated. Vaginal prolapse usually occurs during a heat period due to hormonal stimulation of the vaginal tissue. It can also result from straining during delivery or from inappropriate human attempts to help with delivery. You may first notice the prolapse because your pet strains and tries to pass urine frequently. Vaginal prolapse is treated surgically. The doctor will advise you about breeding your pet in the future. Important Points in Treatment 1. Activity: For ____ days after surgery, limit exercise to short walks.
