Strychnine Poisoning -------------------- General Information Strychnine is a powerful poison used to control predators, rodents, pigeons and moles. It is often placed in meat, grain and peanuts, which may be accidentally eaten by pets. Deliberate strychnine poisonings occur on occasion. Poisoned peanuts buried in the ground are potent indefinitely and are extremely hazardous to pets and children. Important Points in Treatment 1. Treatment of strychnine poisoning involves removal of poison if recently eaten, control of convulsions with sedation, and life-support treatment until the effects of the poison have worn off. 2.
