Urinary Tract Tumors -------------------- General Information The urinary tract includes the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder and urethra. Tumors in these organs may be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Tumors may originate within the urinary tract, or they may develop elsewhere in the body and spread to the urinary tract. Malignant tumors within the urinary tract may also spread to other parts of the body. Signs of urinary tumors include dark or bloody urine, straining to urinate, vomiting, depression and a distended abdomen. Important Points in Treatment 1. Treatment is determined by the results of laboratory tests, radiographs and the overall condition of your pet. When the tumor is diagnosed, your doctor will discuss its removal with you. 2. A sample of the diseased tissue may be submitted to a laboratory to determine of it is cancerous. 3. Drug therapy may be required after surgery in some cases. Recommendations:
