Polyps

                      General Information



A polyp is a growth that protrudes from a mucous membrane (lining

of an organ, tract or body cavity).  Some common sites for

polyps are the throat, rectum, vagina and bladder.  Polyps can

be single or multiple, and may recur.



Surgical removal is the best treatment for polyps.  Most polyps

are benign (non-cancerous), but malignancies (cancerous

growths) do occur.
